Franciscan Hospital for ChildrenAnimal Forest RoomInformation updated November 24, 2006
In November, the daycare was completely renovated. The whole facility was named in honor of Hyman Novack, philanthropist and the patriarch of the Novack Family Foundation which has generously donated to the hospital over the years. The new name of the facility is the Hyman Novack Medical Daycare Program.
I designed and painted the Animal Room mural in acrylic and latex paint. In November 2005, the Franciscan Hospital for Children in the Brighton section of Boston, Massachusetts, commissioned me to design and paint a cheerful mural in a room in their Medical Daycare facility to make it brighter and friendlier. The children who are in the mural room do not get outdoors very often and so I made it into a forest room with all kinds of colorful animals. Also the theme is in keeping with St. Francis being the patron saint of animals. The original plan was a three-wall mural design. A Boston-based Girl Scout Troop became involved and funded my materials and supplies for their Silver Award Project.
