Our beloved son Cameron, was "finally & officially" diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
by the twins pediatrician, on August 13, 2007, shortly after the twins turned 4 years old.
Our world began to spiral into the unknown world of Autism.

FACTS:
 *1 in 150 children are born with Autism
 *BOYS are diagnosed with Autism 4X more often than girls.
*A new case is diagnosed nearly EVERY 20 minutes!
*More children will be diagnosed with Autism THIS YEAR than AIDS, Diabetes, and Cancer COMBINED

APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
ASO Boost Autism Awareness Month with Annual Walk-a-thon

 

The Center for Disease Control reports that 1 in 150 people have autism. Given this increased rate, autism will soon become the most common disability in the United States. Oregon has the highest rates of autistic diagnoses in the United States. In 2006, the Oregon Department of Education reported 1 in 98 students are on the autism spectrum.


The Autism Society of Oregon (ASO) is sponsoring the 6 th annual Autism Walk-a-thon Sunday April 13, 2008 at Oaks Park in Southeast Portland. Oaks Park is located at 7805 SE Oaks Park Way on the East end of the Sellwood Bridge. The registration desk opens at 9:30 a.m., the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and the event concludes at noon. The cost is $12 per person, which includes the event tee shirt. On-line registration and pledge forms are available at www.autismwalkathon.com. The expected attendance is approximately 800 walkers with many children with autism

I was so inspired by his song, that I created this music video of our Twin boys lives showing them growing up through the years.

Autism - HOPE After Diagnoses

You hear from parents and their autistic children.  There is HOPE, HOWEVER, many can not afford "hope" for our children.
So we rely on ourselves as insurance does NOT cover the much needed therapies.
And we depend on the "over worked" public school system that is now crowded with these children.

Seriously...what is wrong with our US health care system?!  What is wrong with our country?! Why are we allowing insurance and pharmaceutical companies to drain the peon paid average citizen dry? We've paid for medical / health insurance month after month, year after year, and RARELY ever use it but when we need it for our son Cameron, we're told "There is no cure for Autism" 
I replied "Well there is no absolute cure for AIDS, Cancer or Diabetes but you cover and allow treatments for them!

Autism will soon become the most common disability in the United States!
Shouldn't this be addressed?! 
 
We are a powerful, compassionate NATION, and we send our young to fight for a war ALL based on FALSE pretenses and LIES, while killing and disabling many of our own!!! We are spending TRILLIONS of dollars on this God forsaken LIE for a war in Iraq, yet we
DO NOT CARE FOR OUR OWN AT HOME!!
What has happened to our country and our priorities?!

There may not be full recognition, support, or a cure for Autism in my son's lifetime,
but HOPEFULLY for future generations there will be!
 
OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!
