Lizards at the world show

I have just showed my Lizards for the first time at the world show in Hasslet in Belgium.

I was very pleased with my own birds achieving better results than I thought.

I send four which were all colour fed. Which I was told would not help as a vast majority of the Lizards at the show would not be colour fed , it was told that the winning bird would probably be a clear cap.

There is only two classes for Lizards at the world show individuals and a stam, which is a team of four.

NOTE: all the exhibits at the world show are judged on the points system from the com standard which in the Lizard is the LCA’s standard out of 100 points. Each exhibit is given a points score card as well.

But the gold medal winner was non cap gold cock, with lovely dark and straight spangles. The legs, feet and toe nails were as black as your hat, with some really good breast work for both a gold and cock. In my opinion it was a worthy winner even though it wasn’t colour fed this bird achieved 94 points.

See pictures above.  below are picture of my birds at the world show.

It was owned by Joules Eteinne from Belgium he also took the silver with a clear cap gold hen. This bird again had lovely spangles but I felt they weren’t as defined or straight as the winner but still a very nice bird.

The brozone medal went to B Decker also form Belgium with a clear cap gold cock this bird again had good spangles and dark feet but very little breast work.

Going to the comment I said about colour feeding there were a number of birds colour fed including my own. In fact I counted at less 20 plus my own which did supricse me.

But the silvers appeared to very pale when not colour fed and really to me didn’t do the bird any favours.

Because I saw some really nice Broken Cap silver hens with some lovely breast work and spangles but the spangles did seem to be clear or defined enough to me with I think is due to them not being colour fed.

The stam section was also won by Joules Eteinne with a stam of clear cap silver hens. With nice spangles and breast work and the dark feet as well all four were perfectly matched. [which is what a stam should be] there received 92 points each.

One thing that all Lizards had were really black feet and leg’s which I lack in my own stud something I have to look to improve.

I really enjoyed my first world show and will be showing again in 2009, it is a great experience. So please have a go, join the IOA and show the world that the UK has some of the best Lizards.

We could then maybe have a UK world Lizard champion?

I hear you say what about the birds being away for so long? Well my birds came home fitter than they went and in perfect health.
