Author Tobias Wolff talks about his upbringing, his wartime experiences and sources of inspiration for his writing. Professor Wolff is a long time parishioner at the Catholic Community at Stanford and a lecturer at Stanford University. He has written several memoirs, including "This Boy's Life" and "In Pharaoh's Army" along with his latest work, a collection of short stories, "Our Story Begins". He will also read selected passages from his books.

We will consider the various faces of Mary Magdalene to be found in early Christian literature and imagery: apostle, teacher, companion to Jesus, witness to mystery. What can we tell about her and the early communities that claimed her as hero and model? How did she end up to be the "woman in red" in later Christian imagination?
