My name is David Gust and I live on Lake Michigan in the Indiana National Lakeshore with my cats, "Big Kitty" and "Chuck". Let's just say that I am "middle aged". I recently became disabled and needed something to keep me away from the TV all day. I have always been artistically inclined, but never worked in the Arts. By trade I was a Baker and Caterer, and have been in the Food and Beverage industry for many years. I dabbled with Polymer Clay a bit, and found that I liked to do faces. I soon found myself surronded by a lot of heads with no bodies. A good friend suggested that I make Dolls. Well, I didn't have any idea of how to start, so I got on the internet and looked for sites on "doll making" and my options. I found a wonderful site called Doll Makers Journey and found some great ideas. I had never really sewn anything more than a button or straight lines before. But I persevered and figured out how to use a sewing machine. I started using other artists patterns, but I soon figured out how to make my own. I use mostly vintage fabrics that I find at yard sales, on-line auctions or from friends. When I have to buy new fabrics I only use the best quality silks, satins and leathers. Vintage costume jewelery and trims help finish off each of my creations. I hope you enjoy my Dolls as much as I enjoy making them!
