My studio has windows that look out over Novato Creek. On a cold, windy, rainy day this winter, I started to paint my storm series, for which I gave myself a limited amount of time to do each one. I wanted to capture the movement and velocity of the storm. I wanted to capture the wet of the day and the beauty of nature's palette.
The creek was full of raging, dark water. I turned my easel out to face the creek and watched the birds, ducks, and logs floating out to the bay from the creek. It was nature in all of her glory. I could not paint fast enough to capture everything.
By pushing myself to paint this series, I feel my paintings have become more free and stronger. I am very excited about this freedom in my latest work.
