Fort Custer Recreation Area is a gem located in Southwest Michigan near the small town of Augusta between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. While there are many opportunities for outdoor activities (Please visit the Fort Custer Recreation Area website) our group's main focus is the trail system. There are over 22 miles of wooded, well marked, multi-use trail within the park, with some optional water crossings. No equestrian camping exists at this time but we are working toward that goal. We do have one or two special permit camps each year- check out the newsletter for those times.
We share the trail with bikers, hikers, and occasional mushers, so be advised to condition your horse to those possible elements. The equestrians are intended to go in the opposite direction of the bikers so that we meet head on but there are always exceptions. A staging area (large parking lot) accommodates all users so please be mindful of others and clean up after your horses in this area.
You need not be member of our group to ride at the park, but we would love to have you join us- either literally via membership or show up and ride with us at one of our scheduled rides. One or more of our members could serve as a guide if you desire and there's usually a potluck lunch after-wards to which all are welcome.
Hope to see you on the trails!!!
