~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These walks are no longer
organized, managed, or monitored by the event's founder.
By attending, you assume responsibility for helping to keep it safe and enjoyable for everybody.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dogs lose track of their humans very easily in the crowd. In 5 or 10
seconds your dog can get separated, panic, and run quite far from you.
- enjoy your conversations, but check in with your dog constantly
- do not bring a newly adopted dog until you know it will return to you immediately when called

...... and for responsible, considerate people.
This was created for our small dogs to socialize and exercise with minimized interruption and fear. The event has served thousands of small dogs, many of which have been socialized for the first time (including many adopted rescues and young puppies). We share the beach with many people (including children) and big dogs, but we keep moving along the beach so no disturbance needs to last more than a few moments. Please remember that not all people (especially children) love our dogs as much as we do. If people seem to dislike dogs, please keep your dog away from them. And if a large dog is moving along the beach with us and frightening the small dogs, it is OK to politely ask the owner to let the little ones play and perhaps move in the opposite direction. This is not worth getting into an argument about. Reasonable people realize that there's plenty of beach to share. Unfortunately some unreasonable people share the beach as well... but please don't waste your energy unless there is a real threat to our group. If there is a real threat, ask others in our community to help you.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

> every Saturday at 10:00 AM, year-round, rain or shine <> meet across from Beach Chalet Restaurant, on the beach near the water <
**************************************
Please read and uphold our simple guidelines:
**************************************
Dogs under 20 lbs - Many of our dogs are scared of bigger dogs. This is why the event exists! Nobody walks around with a scale, but a 25-30 lb dog is HUGE compared to many of our little ones.
No Poop Left Behind - Please leave the beach at least as clean as we find it. If any of our dogs defecates and the owner is not right there, please pick it up - hopefully somebody will do the same for you next time
No Aggressive Behavior - This is all about having a safe space for our little ones. If a dog (or human) is frightened or threatened by your dog for any reason (even if there's no apparent reason), please take your dog to a different area immediately. Some dogs are simply incompatible, and it's a very large beach with plenty of room for us all to enjoy a peaceful walk.
Leashes Are Discouraged - Dogs cannot socialize when leashed, and some get very frustrated seeing others play when they cannot. There are many ways to train your dog for off leash play - you can find some good tips by searching the internet for recall training.
No Treats, Balls, or Toys - Let them play with each other, not us. And treats, balls, and toys can cause anti-social behavior or fights between dogs.
No Commercial Activity - Stricly enforced - this would ruin the spirit of the event. By the people, for the dogs, and not for anybody's profit. If you see anybody handing out sales materials or samples, or pitching their business in any way for that matter, please behead them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OFF-LEASH LAW: Off-leash privileges vary by park and beach... even in different areas of some beaches. Each each dog owner is responsible for keeping their dog's off-leash activities within legal areas. Tickets are sometimes issued for violating leash laws, and can be very expensive. These walks should remain completely within the legal off-leash areas. Please keep an eye on the news and notify the group if you learn of any changes or updates. This group walks north (toward the Cliff House) from the meeting place, staying completely within off-leash-legal parts of Ocean Beach.
The leash laws may be changing on Ocean Beach, so watch the news.
Ocean Beach has two legal jurisdictions - north of Stairwell 21 (from Beach
Chalet to Cliff House) and south of Stairwell 21 (Beach Chalet to Sloat Blvd).
On last check, leashes are required if you take your dog south of Stairwell 21.
