FOR SMALL DOGS (under 20 lbs)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is nothing like this event anywhere else in the world! This was created for our small dogs to socialize and exercise with minimized
interruption and fear. The event has served (literally) many thousands of small dogs,
a large number of which have become socialized for the first time (including a lot of
adopted rescues), and for quite a few dogs this is their only off-leash activity at all.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These walks are no longer organized, managed, or monitored by anybody. By attending it you instantly
become a community member, responsible for keeping it alive for many thousands of dogs to enjoy.
* PLEASE WATCH YOUR DOG! * CHECK ON HER/HIM EVERY 5 to 10 SECONDS! *
Even if you think "my dog never lets me out of site," please heed this warning.
The social aspects of these walks are great, but don't forget to watch your dog!
Please save yourself & your dog a horrible experience.
It happens almost every week, usually to somebody who thought "never me."
In 10 seconds your dog can get separated from you, panic, and run.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE EVENT:> every Saturday at 10:00 AM, year-round, rain or shine <> meet across from Beach Chalet Restaurant <
The few simple guidelines below have sustained this event as a healthy community;
not such an easy thing to do when you bring more than 150 dogs together in one place! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Simple Group Guidelines:
> No Poop Left Behind - PLEASE LEAVE THE BEACH AT LEAST AS CLEAN AS YOU FOUND IT, OR CLEANER - if any of our
dogs defecates and the owner is not right there, please pick it up - hopefully somebody will do the same for you next time
> Dogs under 20 lbs only - many of our dogs are scared of bigger dogs - this is why the event exists - no, nobody walks
around with a scale, but you get the point - yes, a 25-30 lb dog is BIG compared to many of our little ones (many have asked!)
> No Treats, Balls, or Toys - let them play with each other, not us - these things can also cause anti-social behavior or fights
> No Aggressive Behavior - this is all about a safe space for our little ones; if another dog is frightened or threatened, please take
your dog to a different area immediately - some dogs are simply incompatible, but it's a very large beach
> Leashes Discouraged - frankly, it is almost cruel to bring dog on a leash - dogs cannot socialize on leash; some find it
very frustrating to see the others play when they cannot
> No Commercial Activity - Stricly Enforced!!! - this would ruin the spirit of the event
By the people, for the dogs, and not for anybody's profit - If you see anybody handing out sales materials or samples,
or pitching their business in any way for that matter, please behead them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*** AGAIN... PLEASE WATCH YOUR DOG CLOSELY ***
Many dogs have gotten separated from their people and everybody panics.
THIS IS PREVENTABLE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OFF-LEASH LAW: Off-leash privileges vary by park. Each each dog owner is
responsible for keeping their dog's off-leash activities within legal areas.
Tickets are sometimes issued for violating leash laws, and can be very expensive.
These walks should remain completely within the legal off-leash areas.
Please keep an eye on the news and notify the group if you learn of any changes or updates.
This group walks north (toward the Cliff House) from the meeting place, staying completely within off-leash-
legal parts of Ocean Beach. If you take your dog south of Stairwell 21 on Ocean Beach leashes are required.
