Day 1 - 4/18/08 - 7 miles, 500' climbing
Caught a ferry out of Long Beach to Twin Harbors on Catalina Island.  Ate lunch at Twin Harbors and then got on the trail (road) to Parson's Landing.  The trail was mostly flat, looping far into valleys in order to avoid various beach camps and stay flat.  Pretty warm temps, sweating it out lugging all kinds of stuff in.  Got into camp and set up our tents.  Campsite 1 is a nice sheltered area separated from the rest of the beach.  Put the beers in the ocean to cool off and explored up and down the beach.  When we returned we discovered the bag had broken open and beers were washing up on shore, with several casualties as a result of the pebbly beach.  Very sad, but the novelty of beers while backpacking still quite nice.

Day 2 - 4/19/08 - Silver Peak and the West End - 11 miles, 2200' climbing
Woke up to a cooler and slightly cloudier day.  Breakfasted and started off on our day hike.  Weren't sure where to pick up the "trail" up the ridge to Silver Peak so we just took one of the steep fire roads to the ridge and walked the ridge road.  Nice views from up top, west shore of the island is very steep and pretty.  Moved on to the west end, taking a shortcut to stay closer to the rugged coast.  Tried to hike out to the point, but were stopped by signs for nesting falcons.  Ate lunch and then headed back to camp.  The proper trail was hard to see, a washout on the road has detoured much of the traffic to a new road which we took.  The detour winded down then up then down then up again before meeting back up with the proper trail.  Great views from the trail above Stony Pt.  Made it back to camp around 3:30.  More exploring around camp, target practice with the slingshot etc.

Day 3 - 4/20/08 - 7 miles, 500' climbing
Took our time hiking back to Twin Harbors.  Ate some hamburgers and had a few beers in town, then checked out the other harbor before catching the ferry back to Long Beach.
