The Park is approximately one acre (310 X 110 feet)and is located at the end of Armstrong street, off Mesa College drive, adjacent to the Baseball fields.

In March 2003 the City agreed to fence off an area of the park and after a years probation the park was formerly accepted as a dog park.

In February 2008 they allowed the Friends of Kearny Mesa Dog Park to form a club and appointed them to be the sole representative of the dog park, reporting directly to the Kearny Mesa Rec.Center. A dog park representative is a board member of both the Club and of the Rec.Center.

The City mows the grass, however the club is responsible for watering and maintaining the area by fencing off areas that need re-seeding. During wet weather the club may close access to the park.

Club volunteers spend several hours each month making this park one of the finest in the City and we try to reduce bare or muddy areas to a minimum. The dog park representative has the responsibility of closing and opening the access gates whenever necessary. The representative works with the Manager of the Kearny Mesa Recreation center, who also may choose to close the park.

DOG PARK FUNDING.

Funding is made possible through advertising banners, engraved bricks, donations and fundraisers. No City funds are used. Accounts are held by the Kearny Mesa Rec.Center on behalf of the Dog Park and by the club itself. Typically fundraisers go into the club's account, everything else goes into the Rec.Center account.

PARK CLOSURE GUIDELINES

The City mows the grass each Thursday morning and the park is usually closed until noon.

As a general rule you should assume that the park will be closed after any rainfall for at least the following day. Clearly, heavy rain, will keep the park closed longer or reduced access by one gate.

As a club member you will be advised when possible by email of any prolonged closure, however as a member you will be expected to honor the closure decision. Please do not lift your dog over the fence at any time.

Also you should check both access gates, as it might be necessary to close one to avoid the mud.
