I like this room - it has you in it
Me sat here - you sat there
We settle down to watch the movie
Ten minutes in when I hear
The gentle sounds
I look around and there you sit
Head to one side, hands on your lap
Fast asleep - oblivious
I smile to myself - my expression softens
I try to be quiet - you need to sleep
The worries of the day gone for a time
I turn back to the movie - but not for long
I can't resist the urge to look at you
To study you as you sleep
I take in every line, every detail
I notice your hands - how soft they look
Yet strong as well
You stir and waken slightly then
Look at me through half closed eyes
I ask you if I should leave
You tell me no - to stay where I am
Then you close your eyes again
I turn back to watch the movie
Happy in the knowledge you trust me
Enough to comfortably fall asleep
Knowing I won't mind
Yes I like this room
I like the quietness of it - broken only
By the gentle sounds of you sleeping
A feeling of contentment settles within me
As my mind takes me to another place
Where you would sleep wrapped in my arms
The mind is a wonderful instrument
Taking us to places we may never go
Sleep well my beloved with your dreams
Let me dream too - just for a little while
