When one belongs to an internet community like WetCanvas - one begins to see the other members with whom you interact on a daily basis as extended family - sharing the good times and the bad. One such 'family' member was Kevin Slater who although confined to a wheelchair for 33 yrs and only able to move his head - still produced some wonderful paintings by using his mouth to manipulate the brushes. Sadly Kevin passed away in July 2006 - his loss was greatly felt throughout the entire WetCanvas community so we did what we knew in his memory - we painted barns for him and some also wrote poetry. This is one of two poems that I wrote in memory of Kevin - God Bless You Kevin!!
Remembering Kevin
Gone but not forgotten
Is what they always say
And Kevin will be remembered
In our own very special way
We're painting up a storm owd lad
And it's all just for you
For no one else quite touched our hearts
In the way you managed to do
Your love of life was evident
In the threads you used to post
But most of all you let us see
Who it was you loved the most
Your faith would put most men to shame
In that you never wavered
And now you rest at God's right hand
Amongst his cherished favoured
So run free Kevin now that you can
And maybe just once in a while
If you look down on us you will see
When we think of you - we'll smile
