The Taylor’s Chapel Church of God of Prophecy was organized in January of 1932 in the home of Minson West by Charles L. Taylor and J.A. West. A few months later, because of a desire to begin Sunday School, the services were moved to Warren Jackson’s Garage at Spivey’s Corner. A little later services were moved to the home of Charles Taylor. Pastors during these first years were Charles L. Taylor, R.N. Cowger, and Julia Taylor. After having services in the Taylor home the church built a sanctuary on Highway 102, which is now Highway 13, approximately 1 mile from the present location. During this time the pastors were Alton Page, Ed Mcmillan, Alonzo Quick and Julia Taylor. In 1945 the church was moved to the present location with Julia Taylor being the pastor. In 1946 Ernest Carter began pastoring the church. Since that time the building has been renovated several times. Since 1946 the pastors have been Milton Stewart, Ernest Carter, Marion Butler and Paul Branch. Ernest Cater pastored on three different occasions. With the old church having been destroyed on January 1, 1978, we began construction on the new auditorium. During the last few years Jerry Shavers, John Davis, Daniel Horne and Keith Strickland have pastored our church. Under the leadership of Keith Strickland, the building of the Sunday School rooms and addition to the sanctuary have been completed. Warren Barfield then served for six years as the pastor, and during his tenure the church saw a significant growth especially among children. His wife also was responsible for this growth since she was active in the local school, and took part in a bus ministry here through which many children heard the gospel. During the next four years with Eugene Hartley as the pastor, the church building was paid in full. Much work has been done through the years for this effort to be accomplished. The church was then blessed to have Philip Taylor as pastor for 15 months. His ministry was in its own way unique since he had a special anointing in teaching and wisdom from the Bible. Some have spoken that he challenged them in the Word, and thereby a strong Biblical understanding and growth was experienced, to which no one can take away. His tenure ended in September 2002 as he returned to his home State of Virginia. He, along with all the others before him are greatly appreciated and missed - Each one having their own Divinely instituted work to accomplish for the Lord. Douglas Howard, former associate pastor at The Erwin Church of God of Prophecy now serves as the pastor, having been appointed in October 2002. As of (2007 - 2009) we have completely renovated the entire sanctuary, adding new carpet, refinishing and padding our pews, and building a new altar. Much more work has taken place including replacing our windows, painting and adding new media projectors in two locations of the sanctuary. Since 2002 we have seen many souls reached and experienced both a substantial physical and Spiritual growth. Our goal is to win souls without concern of ethnicity, or race.
