One a Day Word
Expressions (of the Christian Faith)
September 16, 2009
The Bible is another expression of our faith:
2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
(15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Luke 4:4 KJV
(4) And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
John 1:1 KJV
(1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 KJV
(14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
For too long in history the Word of God was withheld for the people, but now we carry it with us almost everywhere. Yet in many homes across the Church it is still unread, viewed as keep sake, displayed as a decoration, or simply not read.
For the Christian who doesn’t express his or her faith with the Bible through reading it, mediating on it, and living it they are no different in spirituality than those of whom it was keep from. The Psalmist has said:
Psalms 119:11 KJV
(11) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Reading God’s word again is essential in our faith, living God’s word is necessary for the Christian believer to maintain a well balanced diet of the bread from the Father. Jesus said we live by every word of God. Through prayer God’s word is able to speak to us, and through careful study we have the promise of remembrance when we stand before men.
When we can embrace that Jesus became the manifestation of God’s Word, we have entered a new dimension of our faith in Jesus Christ. And through the Holy Spirit God’s word is revealed, and is brought to life itself. Understanding, wisdom and knowledge are all promises we receive through God’s word, and to leave it on the shelf is to starve.
