Mark 16:17-18 KJV

(17)  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

(18)  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Luke 10:19 KJV

(19)  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Romans 8:11 KJV

(11)  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Have you ever stopped to think about the power Jesus has given the church? Jesus said,

Matthew 16:19 KJV(19)  And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

As believers we have been promised power over all the works of the enemy, power over devils, power over poison, power over serpents and scorpions, power over sickness, and yes even power over death.

Think about it, many times the Christian church is guilty of walking in the spirit of defeat when truly Jesus has promised us victory, did you know that the Bible says we are “more than conquers”, and “if God be for you, who can stand against you?” Are you aware that the God said we, would “walk through the fire and the flood and not be destroyed” (Paraphrased).

Is this to be interpreted that we should walk around drinking poison, handling serpent and scorpions? NO! That would be foolish. Does this mean we should lay hands on the sick? We are instructed too. Do these verses tell us to cast out devils, and exercise the power we’ve been given over Satan? Why shouldn’t we? Jesus did.

And finally should we as Christians who die in this life expect to be raised up after death like Jesus? Absolutely! The resurrection is a staple in the life of Jesus which along with all the other prophecies concerning Him proved Him to be the Son of God, and the Savior of souls.

We have these promises, so remember, be “wise as serpents and harmless as doves”, but don’t walk in defeat when we’ve been promised victory.
