Mat 22:37 KJV

(37)  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

The pursuit of people seeking their purpose in life, or their particular calling in ministry is popular subjects and rightfully so. But there is something more valuable first, there is something that must come before the purpose and before the calling, and it must always continue or the calling and purpose will be lost or have no true meaning. It must be our love for God.

Job 1:20-21 KJV

(20)  Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

(21)  And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

Did you miss it? Read it again! Now did you get it?

Job worshipped! Yeah He worshipped! The earlier conversation between God and Satan was when the devil said in so many words, “Job serves you because of your blessings, take down those walls of protection and touch that which is his and he will curse you.” God said  “Ok, go ahead test him, take anything you want just leave Job alone.”

Well that is exactly what the devil did; He took everything that pertains to Job’s wealth, all his cattle, all his, sheep, and other livestock, also his servants, and his sons and daughters.

But go back and read what Job did before all this, He was found worshipping God in sacrifices for his children, now everything was gone and Job was left with nothing and now he worships God again.

So I guess I would ask us, would we be willing to worship God if everything we had that labeled us as God’s child was taken away? If you couldn’t preach would you worship? If you could no longer play your instrument would you worship? If in your life every calling and ability that people see was taken away would they still see in you a worshiper?

Do people recognize you as a Sunday school teacher, a preacher, or a talented singer, or any other calling? Or do they know you as a child of God? If today it was all taken away would they still be able to recognize Jesus in your life?

Job’s story gets worse for him before it gets better, but God says of Job, “He still holds his integrity”.

So pursue your calling and ministry, pursue your service for God and do it with all your might, but allow your love for God to be first.
