Windows only: New software Microsoft Research Group Shot merges the best areas of similar group photographs to make one picture where everyone's smiling and looking at the camera with their eyes open. I've installed Group Shot but haven't had a chance to test it extensively. However, the help page shows an interesting example of fixing an otherwise good "eyes shut" group photograph. Colorize your black and white photos. Software Recolored makes coloring your black and white photos a relatively simple task.







To add color to a photo, all you have to do is add markings to the different regions of the image, indicating how it should be colorized. Then click the Colorize button and let the software do the rest. Recolored looks pretty awesome, though I'm not sure just how difficult it is to use. The video tutorial certainly makes it look very easy. Recolored is free for non-commercial use, Windows only.

Are you planning a trip to a distant land and want to be prepared? Do you prefer to see lifehacks with illustrations? Oft-mentioned photo-sharing site can help on all these fronts.

DIY passport photos. Free service ePassportPhoto allows you to create your own valid passport photo in a few easy steps. All you need to do is: Take a digital photo of the subject with a natural expression, closed mouth and open eyes, capturing the entire head in front of a white background. Then use the Browse button to select the file and press the Next button to continue. From there you can crop, download, and print your valid passport photos. If you don't want to deal with printing them at home, ePassportPhoto does offer to print and ship the photos to you for a reasonable rate ($3.99). If you do it all yourself, the service is entirely free.

Share mobile media with PixPulse. PixPulse is a free service for your mobile phone that allows you to easily share your cell phone's pictures and videos with the world. You can publish media to your blog, MySpace or any website. You can upload videos and photos to your PixPulse Channel for anyone to view on their mobile phone and website. PixPulse will always offer a free service and since PixPulse sends your media to your friends, you are only paying for one SMS/MMS message. I haven't had a chance to try out PixPulse, so if anyone has, let us know how it works for you. It seems like a nice service for sharing mobile content with a lot of people. I think this is only a US based service. Let me know if you can use it here also.
