Thank you for visiting and sharing your time to get to know Abbie.

 

Abbie is a unique 4^th grader who was born with two facial birth defects on her

left side.  She has an underdeveloped jaw and an ear deformity.  Everyone who meets Abbie is warmed by her kind heart and soft spoken words.

She is involved with the Miami

Children's Hospital Craniofacial Team where she is evaluated each year by specialists.  This team includes two plastic surgeons, an ENT(ear-nose-throat), an orthodontist, periodontist, speech pathologist, and audiologist.

 

In 2007, Abbie was chosen by the team, along with fifteen other children with varying degrees of craniofacial issues, and invited to swim with the dolphins in the Florida Keys.

 

 

 

 

"I was kind of nervous, but when I touched the dolphin he was very smooth," said Abbie.

"Then my whole family got to go visit a sea tank and we saw sea cucumbers, starfish, and crabs."
