The Community Infrastructure Levy:
Getting the Design Right
7 September 2009, Bircham Dyson Bell, London

Understand the implications of the proposals for your business.

This seminar provides the opportunity to discuss the design of the Community Infrastructure Levy and understand the implications of the proposals for your business. The Community Infrastructure Levy sets out to ensure that local authorities have the resources to invest in the infrastructure required to support the Government’s huge house building programme. The Levy, implemented under the Planning Act will empower local authorities to levy a charge on new developments although not require them to. The proposed definition of infrastructure is wide ranging covering transport, schools, health centres, flood defences, play areas, parks and green spaces. Charges will be calculated based on a simple formulae relating to the size and character of the development. The aim of the Levy is to make the system ‘faster and fairer’ and to strike the right balance between national consistency and local flexibility.

Confirmed speakers to date include:

John Qualtrough Partner Bircham Dyson Bell
Richard Serra Director, Leeds Planning and Regeneration Team Savills
Jonathan Seager
Assistant Director of Planning British Property Federation
