Questions to Ask Yourself BEFORE Adoption:
1. Will you be able to financially support your gerbil?
- Do you have enough for a gerbil home?
-- A glass aquarium is ideal. You will need at least 5 gallons per
gerbil. Make sure you have a lid for each aquarium!!!
- Do you have enough money for food, bedding, a water bottle, toys, chewsticks, etc.?
- Are you ready for vet visits? Do you know which vets in your area will care for gerbils? Recommended Vets
2. How many gerbils will you be keeping?
- Gerbils are social animals and MUST be kept in groups of two (2) or more.
Taken from the AGS Website:
"Lone gerbils have been proven to live shorter, less healthy lives, and
are often overweight and not too happy.
They also tend to be harder to
tame and less friendly overall."
- Males can be kept in groups of 2, 3, sometimes even more.
- Females
tend to be more aggressive toward one another and should be kept in
pairs.
- Will you be breeding? If so, visit the following site: Gerbil Breeding and Development
