Registered Piano Technician

Training

Career Training

Piano technology is a vast subject.  Training to become a complete piano technician cannot be done at a casual pace or level.  One must find a way to be mentored, opportunities for apprentice participation or enroll in a course of studies.  Serious students of piano tenchnology and those who would like to build a career working as a piano technician may wish to consider enrolling in The Chicago School for Piano Technology.  A complete course curriculum offers an education in the whole piano.

Continuing Training & Certification

Joining a local chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) offers the piano technician a way of being a part of a group of like minded persons, all interested in the furtherment of the trade.  Chapter membership encourages professional relationships with other students of piano technology and those who are already accomplished technicians.  Local chapters hold monthly meetings to discuss relevant topics, hold training classes and seminars and provide access to other inmportant PTG events such as annual National Conventions. Two excellent chapters in the Chicago Metropolitan area are the Chicago and North Shore Chapters.

The Chicago Chapter is education oriented.  Our 1st Tuesday Club offering is a once monthly continuing education evening class for technicians interested in advancement to RPT status.  Several RPT members of the Chicago Chapter are regular contributors.  Educators include Jeff Cappelli, Wolfgang Loentz, Debbie D'Iorio, Alan Zajicek, John Blessing, Ben Gac, Michael Gutowski and others.  We attempt to further our trade by encouraging skill building and accomplishment to the RPT goal.  All members of the Chicago and North Shore Chapters are welcome to attend whenever possible.  We meet on the 1st Tuesday of every month.
