1. Brittany

Crozon peninsula, France

We spent a week on a 32-foot yacht with a skipper, sailing 123 miles, including a night passage. During that week, we gained our RYA sailing certificates. Ben and the boys got Competent Crew ratings, while I made Day Skipper (Tidal).

Then we spent the following two weeks in Perros-Guirec, on Brittany's famous Pink Granite coast. We exchanged homes and cars with a wonderful French family - Tony and Christelle Tom.

2. Donegal, North Ireland

We spent a week on a friend's 50-foot ketch, based in Mulroy Bay, Donegal.
