Carlo Ricafort's work is based on appropriated images and the use of planned chance.  He uses a mixture of visual elements:  dense vs. sparse, abstract/text and drawing/painting.

"In my work, I draw inspiration from popular culture such as hip-hop, cartoons, jazz, logos (intellectual property), typography, art history and the mysteries in history.  My main interest lies in the cause and effect of exploitation past and present. Picture-making is one way to interweave all these contexts allowing me to explore and play with both content and form."

Born in Quezon City, Philippines, Ricafort immigrated to the Bay Area when he was 10 years old.  He holds a BFA from San Jose State University and his work has been exhibited at SoMarts, Pro Arts, Lobot, Arts Benicia and the Sunnyvale Creative Arts Center Gallery.
