England Hidalgo's composition of drawings, photocopy, cut-and-paste, and paintings, layer current and historical facts, popular icons and punk culture in one visual platform. His work exults the freedom of biculturalism, the torment of great contempt and the seduction of material objects. Titles of works such as "We don't make it to the Headlines", "Peace is Patriotic and thats a Problem”, or "Forced Unfair Future", illicit facts/news/observation/documentation that is at play with semiotics and the dissemination of information. In his childhood in the 80’s, Hidalgo’s Father exposed him to the art of political cartoons in Philippine Newspapers. In 1999, his art workshop at the Pacific Bridge Gallery in Oakland, California with Carlos Villa and Santiago Bose proves to be most influential. Hidalgo is currently in the Philippines taking up a Painting degree at the University of the Philippines.
