Yoga is about life - each individual life, and the collective Life
we share. It includes everything that lives within us and everything that
lives around us, and it holds the extraordinary potential for our growth
and transformation. Yoga introduces a framework of physical postures,
breathing and meditation skills, and an ancient philosophy that grounds
us and guides us toward insight and truth, but it also opens our hearts to
the experience of being human. When yoga becomes our path, those
we meet along the way become our companions - our true friends - and
together we share the joys and challenges of life.

Jack Kornfield reminds us that we find clarity and simplicity
even in the midst of this complex world, when we discover that the
quality of heart we bring to life is what matters most.   If we are to bring
light or wisdom or compassion into the world, we must first begin with
ourselves. The universal truths of spiritual life can come alive only in
each particular and personal circumstance. This personal approach to
practice honors both the uniqueness and the commonality of our lives,
respecting the timeless quality of the great dance between birth and
death, yet also honoring our particular body, our particular family and
community - the personal history and the joys and sorrows that have
been given to us. In this way, our awakening is a very personal matter
that also affects all other creatures on earth.

"The hour is striking so close above me,
so clear and sharp
that all my senses ring with it.
I feel it now:  there's a power in me
to grasp and give shape to my world."
