Cross Country

The Trinity 2007-08 Cross Country team included the following runners: Noah Abramson (fourth grade), Sierra Gonzales (fourth grade), Jonathan Summer (fifth grade), Donny MacAdam (seventh grade), Emily Kim (seventh grade) and finally Julia Howell (seventh grade). Mr. Mehringer was the coach and was assisted by Debbie Abramson and Nancy Gonzales (both ladies ran with the students).

Our team verse for this year was: “Rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Timothy 4:7a-8).

We ran near the Trinity Newhall campus, running from the school in the surrounding residential areas. We ran from 1 mile to 2 miles and we practiced once a week from March 11 to April 29.

This year’s Cross Country meet was held on Tuesday, May 6th at Balboa Park in Encino. The runners had to complete a mile and a half course. There were a total of 92 runners in the elementary division and 39 runners in the junior high division.

Here are the results for each runner:

•    Sierra Gonzales (4th grade): Sierra placed 8th in the fourth grade girls category
•    Noah Abramson (4th grade): Noah placed 11th in the fourth grade boys category
•    Jonathan Summer (5th grade): Jonathan placed 2nd overall among all 92 runners
           and 1st  among 5th grade boys
•    Donny MacAdam (7th grade) placed 4th in the 7th grade boys category
•    Emily Kim (7th grade): Emily placed 3rd in the 7th grade girls category
•    Julia Howell (7th grade): Julia placed 1st in the 7th grade girls category

Julia Howell received a plaque and a 1st place 7th grade girls category ribbon for her times. Jonathan Summer received a 2nd place overall ribbon and a 1st place 5th grade boys category ribbon for his times. The rest of the runners received participation ribbons.

Other schools who ran included: Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran, Lycée International School of Los Angeles, West Valley Christian, First Lutheran School, Grace Community, Our Savior’s First Lutheran, Conoga Park Lutheran, Laurel Hall
