"The Magician's Nephew" a Smash Success!
Jan. 2009
The Trinity 9th graders performed the CS Lewis play The Magician's Nephew to two packed houses on Jan. 14th and 15th. It was Trinity's first full-scale production and it was a spectacular success.
Under the Direction of Trinity Drama Instructor, Pepper Sweeney, and Assistant Director, Zach Weichbrouct, the play is based on the first of the seven books that make up The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. The Magician’s Nephew tells of the adventures of Young Diggory and Polly From Victorian London. Using Magic rings created by Digory's eccentric Uncle Andrew, the two set forth on a magical adventure through mythical kingdoms and enchanted lands. Seeking a healing apple for Digory’s sick Mother. Along the way they awaken the evil Queen Jadis from her enchanted sleep and unintentionally take her to a world that is just beginning the world of Narnia. |

"Rather than just tackle a reader's theater scenario for our first production, I wanted the students to have a authentic theater experience. I wanted them to get a taste of the triumph and struggle of pulling something like this off," said Mr. Sweeney.
"I want to commend the students for their hard work and willingness to take risks. | Polly (Kaeli Massetto ) awakens the evil Queen Jadis (Rachel Horner) from her slumber just in time to doom newly formed Narnia in Trinity's production of The Magician's Nephew.

As a class we meet 3 times a week for 50 minutes. It is a very ambitious undertaking to attempt to produce a play strictly in class time. I am proud of the students for accepting the challenge and rising to the occasion."
"As you can see in the cast and crew list, many hands have helped out in this production. I am amazed and inspired by the spirit of volunteerism among the parents of this school," continued Mr. Sweeney. "I owe a big thanks to all of those parents who came forward with servant hearts and gave of their time and talents to this class. Someone who is not a parent at the school, Marcella Jones, deserves special thanks for working tirelessly to help our production. A heartfelt thank you from the 9th grade class and myself." |
