Freelance editor and travel writer Garland Pollard was most recently senior editor for the VISIT FLORIDA family of products at Miles Media in Sarasota, Florida. He was the founding editor of Virginia Living, the magazine about Virginia that debuted in November 2002. He began working in newspapers at Richmond's Style Weekly in 1985. For over two years, he edited The Richmond State, a newsweekly he co-founded that covered politics, society and culture in Richmond. He has worked as a staff editor at The Progress-Index in Petersburg and maritime, NASA/aviation and technology reporter at Dolan's Virginia Business Observer in Norfolk. He was formerly a staff writer at Inside Business, the weekly Virginia business journal, where he covered real estate, transportation and urban planning.
His volunteer interest is historic preservation. He has had a long interest in and the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, where he served on the board of its Historic Richmond branch. In addition, he created a website of historic brand names at www.brandlandusa.com and has written over three dozen wikipedia entries on companies and brands at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BrandlandUSA.
