Gary Nemcosky

I am an art instructor at Appalachian State University. I graduated with a BFA in painting and drawing at West Virginia University way back in 1982. I then recieved an MFA at East Carolina University. Beyond this I worked for two years on post-graduate studies in art history at the University of Cincinnati. I have been teaching in the art department at ASU in Boone, North Carolina since 1989.

My work through the years has always been about process and technique, with a major emphasis on the exploration of mixing and combining various media - traditional media, digital collage, and everyday materials, such as instant coffee and shoe polish. At various times I have included actual objects within the work.

Another major aspect of my work is that I consider them to be still-lifes, often in the vanitas tradition; the selection of juxtaposed objects are meant to be read within this framework.

But I am also a watercolor enthusiast. I do not consider myself very good at it, yet I absolutely love dabbling with this media. So I unabashedly include my work in this area on this site also. Hopefully you will enjoy.  Garynem.
