The Arkansas League of Artists
The Arkansas League of Artists is a art club based in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It is mostly a painter's club, but is open to all genres of art media and ethusiasts. The League meets the last Tuesday of each month, except for December, at 7:00 PM at the North Little Rock Community Center, at Willow and Pershing, across from the Patrick Hays Senior Citizen's Center. Each month, the meeting includes a demonstration by a League member or a visiting artist. The members also compete each month by bringing a painting, drawing, or other artwork to be judged by the League members to compete for First through Fifth place. Winning in one of these placings qualifies the artist to place their artwork in one of the local banks for the next month. It also qualifies the artist to participate in the Laman Library Winner's Art Show in December of that year.
The Arkansas League of Artists also has a Plein Aire program. Every month artists may choose to participate in going to the plein aire site that is announced at the meetings and in the newsletter. There are other opportunities that includes the North Little Rock Mayor's Show every May at the Patrick Hays Senior Citizen's Center. It is the biggest show of the year. Prizes are included and the show is juried by a local art professional. The Artist's reception is during the first week of the show. The winner's paintings from this show are shown at the Fairfield Bay Golf Club in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
The League is education based. It strives to not only provide workshops that members may partake, but also awards scholarships to High School students entering Colleges and Universities, or the Arkansas Art Center Museum School.
