The City of West Linn, Oregon, in collaboration with the "Historic Grindstones" Public Art Committee, is seeking an artist or artist team with successful public art experience to submit qualifications to participate in a design competition. Applications will be accepted by electronic submission only.

Three semi-finalists will be paid an all-inclusive fee of $750 each for their design presentation, including a sculptural maquette.  The winning design will be used to leverage additional funds to see the project to its completion.  (Estimated artist fee for fabrication and installation - $30,000 - $40,000).  Preference will be given to artists who have experience with design and fabrication of similar projects. The Selection Team will consider all concepts and media.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

All artists responding to this Call must include all the materials below.  Each page must be headed with artist name(s), mailing address, phone and email address.

• Letter of interest, not exceeding 2 pages, describing the artist's vision and concept for meeting project goals.  Letter should address preliminary thoughts about fabrication materials other than the Grindstones themselves.  Letter may also provide information commonly known as an "artist statement."  If a team is submitting, Letter must identify the primary contact person.

• Visual documentation in digital format.  

• No more than 10 JPEG images (including details) of past public art projects, submitted electronically.  Images must be JPEG format only (.jpg).  Each image must be labeled with artist’s last name first and a number one through ten.
• JPEG image specifications:
• Resolution: 72 dpi
• Longest-side scale: 1024
• Max size per each image: under 250 kb

• Internet links to personal websites cannot be accommodated during the selection process.

• Image list, including the image label, title of the public art project, media, dimensions, execution date, budget, and description. 

• Current résumé not to exceed 2 pages for each artist / artist team member.

TIMELINE

• Receipt of Application Packets email deadline -     Monday, 5 p.m. June 2, 2008

• Review of proposals and selection of the three semi-finalists - Friday, June 6, 2008

• Notification of semi-finalists - Monday, June 9, 2008

• Semi-finalist Design Presentations -                          Friday, July 11, 2008
