HSC Campouts

Have you experienced Southern California's Joshua Tree National Park? A world-wide rock-n-roll landmark, this park is named for the whimsical shapes this tree can form, and cherished for its spectacular desert views. "Visitors are astounded by great granite monoliths and twisted rock formations; the diverse range of mammals, plants, reptiles, and over 240 species of birds." (www.joshuatree.org)

Come join us in the desert the spring for our annual Joshua Tree Adventure Campout! It begins on Monday, April 2, 2012 (2 pm) and we'll stay for 5 days, through Saturday April 7, 2012. (noon).

We'll camp at Indian Cove Campground, group sites 1 & 2 at the northern entrance. The site is nestled in huge boulders that are great for climbing. There are great hikes nearby, lots of wide-open space to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, and stargazing.  There may be other scheduled activities, but the plant and animal wildlife combined with the unusual terrain makes for an adventure all on its own.

You will haul your own water from the ranger station which is near the campground but not within walking distance. The toilets are of the "pit" variety, in enclosed shelters, no showers. Check forecasts and prepare for all kinds of weather including sun, rain, heat, wind, or cold. There will be a group potluck each night (optional).

No RVs over 25 feet are allowed. We may have to limit the number of RVs.

The cost is only $20 per person for the week, firewood included.

Send your checks (payable to HSC) and liability release form to:

Please check your HSC membership to be sure it is current. If you are staying less than the full week, please consider getting an individual site.

If you are bringing children not your own, you will need to mail in a separate liability release form signed by their parent and a copy of the medical authorization form for minors completed and signed by their parent or guardian.
