ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in the Northeast of England, which means I am a Geordie lass (howway the lads for all you Geordie's out there).

I moved to the United States in 1978 with my husband and currently live in Yellow Springs, Ohio

Co-founder and co-curator of the ChamberPot Gallery, Arts Council Board Member,  Yellow Springs Arts Council  Blog administrator, local art fairy, and avid supporter and volunteer of the Yellow Springs Arts Council.

Artist Statement

Most of my work is impulse driven, which means I create art when I am moved by something specific. It can be sparked by a photograph, a face, a sunset, a flower,  a news story, a word, a feeling or a dream. I like the freedom to work between genres, disciplines, mediums, between fine art and craft, high art and low art. This allows form to be dictated by the content and not restricted by discipline. Despite having a broad range of work the common thread is that I always use black as my base whether I am painting on wood, stone, or canvas. Sometimes I am moved to cut or sand a painting down, or add other elements, to reformat it, but it is always the content that dictated what will happen to a piece.

Education
I was exposed to art at an early age by my mother, who is an artist herself.  She engaged me in art projects and visits to the museums of the Northeast and London. While I have always been creative and enjoyed crafts, sewing and embroidery, it wasn't until the age of 40 that I took my first formal oil painting class.   I studied under Marie Linnekin at Ann Arundel Community college MD and as a member of her monthly art critique group from 1995 until 1999.
