AUGUST 2007
HI EVERYONE. i AM THE DISAPPEARING ARTIST. YEP. i NO LONGER SHOW UP ON GOOGLE.

dead in the water. fantastic. yipeee!!!
SO< guess I will be soon doing a blog, my space and the other hoops artists have to jump thru these days to have a web-presence.
right now I am having fun doing some new paintings, doing a lot of brainstorming on what to do with my career this year/next year, and new collections of work I have been imagining.
hanging out at my place in the middle of nowhere, enjoying the peace and quiet... recently went all vegan, and high-raw food diet. feel pretty darn good. hopefully years from now it will also help make a difference in my overall health I think it already is.
new photos of new work created in August coming soon.

Lots of new art posted!

Well, I had decided to start a blog. I haven't actually created it yet. I have a lot going on right now, with limited time to spend updating everything. A blog might actually help in that department!
So, watch for that soon. Until then, i'm going to keep using this as a type of blog...
Today I have been thinking about the use of canvas and wood. I love to paint on wood panels. Masonite, hardboard, and also deep panels. Not that long ago I invested in a large number of canvases. I have never been happy painting on canvas! Painting on wood has been somewhat of a trademark, or part of my art itself for many years now, and I think in the future I will continue to use wood. the specific effects and style of my work comes accross much better on wood. I never seem to get the same results from canvas. However, I will be using what I ordered!
I will probably sand the surface and coat the canvas with gesso to get a smoother surface to work on and go from there. I have several custom made huge canvases for our house that I plan to create on. Those won't be finished and photographed until later in the year, though.
We leave for a 9 day vacation to the Greek island of Ikaria tomorrow. (So until the 22 there won't be any updates to the site.)
last month we visited Sirens resort outside of Loutraki. A fabulous place, with a beautiful view and private beach. And the best staff of any place I have been- Cleo and her family that own Sirens are fantastic, and make the guests feel like family. (I may post photos of all these recent trips soon).
Finally, One thing that has been really bothering me for a few months now...
Since I had not been active online with my website since about 2005 (no time for a full time career and website muckity muck when your Mom is dying of terminal cancer, folks. At least not for me, anyway.)
Basically, I am having to 'start over' with my website and having a presence online.
I know people google artists to see if they are established.
Unfortunately, most of my seach results have disapeared.
I had my first website in 2000, and have been online since. (I was creating art long before my first website, though.)
Oh well, it's all just another part of starting life over again.
I see this as a positive thing, although frustrating at times, of course. Hopefully If I can share a more complete story of what's happened over the last few years, it might give others some hope too. still working on that. Right now what's important for me is to keep creating art, and sharing it, until I am fully back in the swing of things full time.
Later in the year things around here will be more settled, and I will be able to work full time again. (i'm travelling Internationally again at the end of the summer, and won't be in the studio so much, until November)
Until then, please enjoy the art, and visit often to see what's going on.
I will probably add an archive section to the gallery or on it's own page while i'm gone, since i won't be painting as much, so there will still be fun stuff to see on the site.
I have a lot of exciting things planned, and hope everyone will join me on the journey!
be well everyone!
Jenn

I have a lot more to say and share with everyone, but no time to write it right now.
please visit often and I will be updating everything as soon as I have time.
3 never before seen paintings were posted to the gallery today with some comments.
I hope to have new photos this week or after I return from vacation to share.
Recently, I have been very frustrated and fed up trying to find the appropriate word or label or 'ISM' to describe my art. The Art I make really goes beyond the established labels or categories.
more on this subject later.
for now, enjoy the paintings. call them whatever you like.

JUNE 15 2007
Hi everyone!
Thanks for visiting.
It's me, Jen, the artist. Yes, this is not a big company, or someone that has a rep or manager do thier talking for them.(There's nothing wrong with having a rep, I just don't choose to use one right now.)
I'm a regular person who is also an artist, and I like writing to, and staying in contact with my collectors and viewers personally.(as much as I can, and still get work done!) I like people who visit my site ,see my art, or buy my art to know there is a 'real' person behind it all, creating it, and sharing it.
so, having said that- I wanted to tell all of you a few things.
The site once again is going thru a re-design. It has to, now that I am creating full time again.
Not everything is going to happen suddenly or all at once, it will be an on-going process over the summer!
Right now I am in Greece, my new home. There is a ton of art at my home back in America that I simply don't have access to right now to make an archive section of, but it's in the works. Of course, I won't have EVERYTHING in an archive, just the most popular artworks, and my personal favorites or ones that are significant in the development of my career.
I'm focusing the website now mainly on my new art. This is really a return to my original subject matter, the world of imagination, symbolism, goddesses, women's spirituality, and more. I have decided to leave behind a certain kind of art, and the business that goes along with it, in order to use my talent to do something that makes me really happy, comes from my heart, and that apparently, A lot of you out there like too!
This means (YAY!) I can be more candid and direct with my audience.
I'm at a point in my life I can create whatever I want, I don't have any pressure to use my talent to 'just pay the bills'. So that's what I am doing. There is a certain 'snob' factor associated with certain types of commercial and mainstream art, and some very narrow views, opinions and ideas about what 'real' or valid art is or should be.some of which I was creating before, but not very happy making.
That's a whole different world of art that I have walked away from. It likes to stick labels on other types of art, So I am sure i'll get one stuck on me too...but, I just don't care anymore. So, call my art whatever you want, put it in any category you want. Outsider art, goddess art, women's art, symbolist art, visionary art, imaginative art, fantastic art. the list goes on. i'll let others decide. The world of art I walked away from often times likes to dismiss or scoff at art that has similar subjects, themes or labels. It also very often has the idea that anything 'beautiful' cannot also be significant. As if beauty is a dirty word. It's not considered 'serious' art. BAH. who cares! I like making 'beautiful art. It just so happens my art also DOES come from a deeper place, and does have significance other than aestetic or visuals.
(There ARE plenty of people who understand these subjects I paint have a place in the history of art, and can enjoy it for what it is, and it's own sake. Most of the people who enjoy what I create, or collect my art like whatever they like, and don't need anyone's approval to tell them it's ok to enjoy it. I like these type of people! And this is 'my audience'.)
I let the fear of that, and influence of others who thought they knew best what to do with my talent stop me from doing what I really love for long enough. Life is too short, people! So if I can pass on anything to anyone reading this- get busy living. this means doing what you really love, (without caring what others think.) Make yourself happy, enjoy your life, and share it with others.
OK, to wrap things up...
I am working on trying to get a short, not too detailed/personal, (but personal enough to understand) version of the events that have happened in the last 3.5 years of my life that led me to where I am now, why I am creating what I am creating NOW, and is the reason my art wasn't seen very much during that time. So hang in there, ALL will be revealed.
For anyone visiting that doesn't know, I went thru a difficult time in my life and am happy to say I came out the other side a better person who is happy, wiser, & more creative than ever.
So please visit often, and join me on a fun new journey.
feel free to write and tell me what you miss seeing, what you'd like to see, or anything else.
Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of my work over the years.
Jennifer
p.s. IF you had the interest or patience to read this far, there are several new sections on the site, and some new sketches created this week, and a painting created this week, that will be posted this weekend.
see! good things come to those who wait!

June 8, 2007
After a break of not being online for a few months, We have our internet connection at our new place and I have several new paintings ready to share.
This spring, I've had a lot of personal issues keeping me away from my website.
I have been creating personal works, presents for family, and using the time I have between everything to experiment with new ideas, directions, and techniques.
Right now I am going thru a transition phase with my art, trying just to enjoy art-making without any pressure. I'm very lucky to be in a position in my life now to do that. I may return to my original subject matter, but aproach it in a new way. It's all part of a big cycle i'm working thru right now. (A positive one!)
Visit often for news, photos of what i've been working on and updates. I might start a blog soon.
Thanks to everyone for being patient! feel free to write if you have any comments. Side note: sorry, but i'm not taking any requests or commissions right now.
love,
Jen
