Apparently, in the 1930s, King Street ran right across Parade Gardens, south to north,
and the statue of Queen Victoria
was marooned in the midst of the traffic.


At this time the name Seymour Place was applied to at least a part of the Parade,
in honour of the mayor, Sir George Seymour Seymour.
