  The earliest map of Kingston dates from 1702, and down-town Kingston,
  to this day,
retains the form of the original plans.

  At the centre of the plan is the Parade, where soldiers and militia could
  carry out their drills. At the start the only public buildings indicated were 
  the Queen's Houses on North Parade, and the Parish Church, on South
  Parade, at the top of lower King Street.
