I can barely remember when I didn't draw, when I wasn't drawn to color. This fascinating journey I have embarked on has been a circular trip of discovery, in myself, as well as my art.
I was born in 1952, the oldest of 6 children, to a family of very modest means. Art school was out of the question, but I spent most of my teen years drawing everything I could, especially faces. When I married, I decided to take painting classes from a local artist. She taught me how to use oils. I loved it! Several years later, divorced, with two small girls to raise, I did as a lot of women do. I put aside my art to raise my family. It wasn't till the youngest was ready to head for collage that I decided to paint again. As I spent time learning new mediums and new techniques, something was born in me that had previously been missing. Ambition! I wanted to be taken seriously as an artist. My education has taken a few erratic turns over the years. I tried many mediums before settling on pastels. I love their immediacy, control. and vibrant colors. My love of horses and other animals has changed the focus of my work. I love the close up, personal view of the subjects I paint, and while I still paint people, I am primarily an Equine artist, specializing in painting Arabians.
