Visual Artist   Marty Dwyer

Marty grew up in St. John's, Newfoundland, an island embodying a culture rich in music, dance and the arts. His passion in painting began at a young age, where he took lessons from some reputable artists such as Gerald Squires and Jim Maunder, whose influence still inspires him today.

Upon graduating from Memorial University of Newfoundland, with a Bachelor of Engineering, in 2000, Marty presented his class with a large eight foot mural titled, "Into the Next Millennium." He then decided it was now time to focus more on his passion for paint and his love of art. He took several art courses at Memorial University of Newfoundland to further develop his skills, and techniques.

In 2003, Marty took a job teaching in South Korea, where he travelled throughout South East Asia. It was here that he found the inspiration he needed to complete his first body of major paintings, which was titled "Asia Artwork". These works show the rich diversity of the region, with the candy colored landscapes, beautiful sun kissed people and the rustic ancient ruins of civilizations gone by.

After completing his travels, Marty returned to Canada in 2005, where he travelled around British Columbia. The landscape in B.C. has a sea of endless beauty, from its rugged coastlines, to its immaculate trees and its breath taking beaches. Marty discovered an endless arena of beauty that captivated and inspired him to complete his next series titled “BC Landscapes”.

Marty’s most recent set of paintings is titled "The Iceberg Series". His inspiration came from the wonderful majestic icebergs that drift across Newfoundland’s coast each year.

Marty has over 15 years experience independently studying art and developing his own unique techniques. He has  completed a fine arts program at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. He presently lives in Vancouver.
