Official Guinness Verification:
The world record for the most people to 'Stand Up Against Poverty' in 24 hours was set on 15 - 16 October 2006 for the United Nation's Millennium Campaign and involved a massive total of 23,542,614 participants in 11,646 events around the globe.

Six years ago, 189 world leaders sat down and agreed to end poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. On October 15 & 16,  '2006,  people across the world stood up to remind them of this promise.

Baba Ramdev had been invited by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to be a part of this historic event. Millions of people around the world stood up together on Sunday, Oct. 15 '2006, in an effort to set an official Guinness World Record for the greatest number of people to stand up against poverty and for the UN Millennium Development Goals.

In India, millions of people, including school children, stood up for 60 seconds between 10 a.m. on Oct 15 and 10 a.m. on Oct 16. Filmstar Aamir Khan, cricketers Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar and music composer A R Rehman were among the Indian celebrities who had been invited by the United Nations to join a 'Stand Up' campaign against poverty.
