In 1900 the Rev Francis Bavin, of the United Free Methodists, located his new church, Christ Church, in the angle where the road to Hope went off to the north east and the  road to the left went  in a slightly more northerly direction towards  Vale Royal and Trafalgar Park.

About a century earlier James Robertson's map showed that angle already there.

This is what I wrote in 1995 in the Jamaican Historical Society Bulletin on

the Rev Francis Bavin, and the location that had borne his 'Jamaicanised'

name for nearly a hundred years.

I have not found a photo of 'Babbin's Church' though I remember quite well what the little building looked like. Sometime after the church was seriously damaged by Hurricane Gilbert an appeal was made for funds to restore it. The picture on the right was an artist's impression of what the restored building would look like. Perhaps this is what the original building looked like when it was bright and new in 1900.
