Noted Phoenix Photographer, Marilyn Szabo, Invited to Participate in the 2005 Arizona Biennial, at the Tucson Museum of Art, from May 14 - August 21, 2005
April 23, 2005. Phoenix, Arizona: Marilyn Szabo, a noted commercial and fine arts photographer based out of Phoenix, is pleased to announce that she has been invited to participate in the upcoming 2005 Arizona Biennial, to be held at the Tucson Museum of Art. The exhibition runs from May 14th to August 21st, 2005. She will be represented by a mixed-media image entitled, "This is Not Hell, But You Can See It From Here."
Marilyn Szabo's work can also be seen in the July 2005 issue of Black and White Magazine, the premier high-quality magazine of black and white photography for collectors of fine photography, and continuously at the Victoria Boyce Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona. She is currently completing "At Work in Arizona," a comprehensive black and white photographic essay on the economic history of Arizona presented by Alliance Bank of Arizona.
In April of 2005, the Bilingual Review/Press, Hispanic Research Center, Arizona State University, published the book "Triumph of Our Communities: Four Decades of Mexican American Art". Photographs from Marilyn Szabo's "La Raza" series are prominently featured in the coffee table sized book. The "La Raza" photographs are individual portraits of groundbreaking artists associated with the Chicano Art Movement.
Among other honors, Szabo has twice received Phoenix Arts Commission, Artist Project Award grants of $5000.00. She has also received an Artist Materials Grant of $1000.00, awarded by the Contemporary Forum of the Phoenix Art Museum. Her work has twice been selected for a Mesa (Arizona) Contemporary Arts Center Purchase Award. For good measure, her work has also been included in the collections of the Phoenix Art Museum; Arizona State University; the New York University Photo Center Gallery, New York; The Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ; and Printemps de la Photo a Cahors, Cahors, France.
