As a child, I was intrigued by the circle. I would see this beautiful and mesmerizing shape everywhere: ornaments, jewelry, bubbles, embroidered centerpieces, woven baskets, patterns on tiles and clothes, etc... Till this day, anything round draws me in. Looking back, I realize that it was all meant to be; the *mandala was calling me...
I began working with the mandala as an art form; exploring both its expressive and educational benefits. In time, I discovered that my life was unfolding like a mandala. Each stage (inner circle) has a purpose, although it does not always appear that way... Every step (mark/stroke) takes precision and the necessary time to do so. Things (visual elements) may seem weird and/or complicated, yet one must not give up. Instead, one finds creative solutions. One learns to live in the moment, becomes increasingly spontaneous, more daring, and especially, trusts the process. In my opinion, one grows throughout mandala making, not only creatively, but as a human being.
Over the past seven years, I have created mandalas that combine traditional notions and personal vision. Nature as well as God were a tremendous source of inspiration. In my new series, "Hidden Worlds/Creatures", all categories have come together, at last...
Enjoy!
*Mandala means circle in Sanskrit, a language from ancient India.
