Title of the project: Colaboração no processo de produção textual em um curso online: um estudo de caso com o gênero resenha de filme
Hello and welcome! This site is part of my master's research on collaborative writing using online tools. The aim of the project is to analyze the process of collaboration among advanced students while they produce film reviews. I also want to investigate whether this collaboration can have any impact on the quality of their final work.
We will be using various internet tools -blogs, wikis, audio and video, forums, different websites- to integrate the activities. This is a case study, and I'm going to work with a small group of four students preparing for the Cambridge Proficiency exam.
I chose film reviews for many reasons: it is a genre that demands that students present both fact and opinion; you can find countless authentic examples of reviews on the internet in different media, and that provides good opportunities to discuss aspects such as target readers, purposes for writing, differences in language, discourse, style and register; students usually enjoy discussing films and talking about them, and that may make the process of collaboration more interesting; 'reviews' is one of the genres included in the Proficiency exam writing test.
I decided to use the online environment because the participants do not study together - they take private classes and very rarely have the chance to interact with other students. Another reason is that the internet offers students the possibility to write to real audiences and not only to the teacher. For me, particularly, it is also an invaluable opportunity to explore new tools to enhance and improve language teaching and learning.
