Welcome to my Web Page.

My name is Rose Twofeathers Hernandez. For information on one of my future Workshops, please follow this link.

I am of Apache, Maya, Azteca, Spanish and Italian descent.  I have been designing and creating jewelry since 1987, and creating my leather bags, pouches, wrappings, and clothes since 1990.  I began using the leather form of art while living in Arizona and attending the U of A in Tucson.  I taught myself this craft and art form with minimum instruction (in 1987) from my friend Betty Maldonado, a Yaqui woman living in Guadalupe, AZ.  She basically showed me one stringing weave and from that point on, my bead work and dream-catching phase  advanced quickly.    My leather crafting came naturally after re-teaching myself a couple of stitches and studying a native craft book found at a local library.   To get ideas, I study things that have been made in leather, improve  or improvise a new design.     I have repaired leather satchels, sandals, bags, and made all sizes of bags from tinni- winni to purse like bags and flute bags.  My favorite things to make are tobacco, pipe bags, and belt pouches; oh, and of course my "dream bag" - the round bottom pouch- which came to me in a dream.  You can find these round bottom pouches in 4" and 6 "H x 2-3/4" diameter sizes locally in Austin, TX at Natures Treasures, Crystal Works, Resistencia Book Store, and anywhere I show at festivals or art exhibits. You can catch me at the East Side Farmers Market on Sundays, in Austin, but not every Sunday.  My recent work has been collaboration work with silver smither,  Senufa Salley.  She's inspired me to re-connect with the Precious Metal Clays.  I have done a few pieces and am just getting pumped in the work.

If you have a special need for something, please feel free to contact me.   I am reasonable with my labor costs and provide prime material.  Recently I made custom dog collars with special stones to help protect or calm the canine.

My next big project is to continue with the bronze and silver PMC.   This work is so much fun and a really cool medium.  I believe that simplicity is the key to any design.   Dreams of designs always provide inspiration and fabrication challenges.  Sometimes it is hard to sleep when things/designs are created during sleep or rest time.  If I give in, I just get up and let spirit move me.
