Sheffield Oaks RUFC v Wibsey 12 - 5
Fortunately the rain disappeared but the blustery wind remained at Myers Grove for our first 3pm kick off. Oaks got off to a good start getting to play with the wind and downhill. Oaks got off to a good start and keeping things tight immediately started to press Wibseys line. Surprisingly tho the last 5 meters were a lot harder to get past as Wibsey mounted some impressive defence to hold Sheffield Oaks out. Oaks finally got over the line though a great set piece dreamed up only 3 days earlier to give Javier a try on his debut performance. With the wind in our sail now Oaks set about putting the pressure straight back on. After a poor back pass from Wibsey in typical Bully style he pinched a try after putting pressure on their backs. All going well we again put on the pressure but unfortunately we weren't able to turn the pressure we had been building into more points and went into half time 12 - 0 up.
In blustery conditions kicking and entertaining rugby were never an option in the second half. Oaks worked excellent pick and drive and rolling mauls up the middle of the park time and time again only to loose it at the last and have Wibsey boot it back down the other end of the park. That said Wibsey never really looked dangerous in the second half but managed get a few breaks in broken play and pinched a try despite dropping it over the line.... Oaks managed to get close on a number of occasions but couldn't finish. It eventually ended with Oaks again having to scramble back 8- yards to stop Wibsey from scoring after nearly scoring right at the last themselves.
All in all another improved performance and an entertaining game....
Man of the match - Selly for some great driving runs and carrying of the ball.
Golden Moment - The first try. Proving once and for all that it pays to train.
DOD - goes to Lee who after them match managed to wear exactly the same clothes as Stuart. Copying is the best form of flattery so they say.... :¬)
Ginger of the Day - At last this title is wrestled away from Rusty and goes to the Wibsey No. 8 for one of the most impressive displays of facial hair seen all season.
