Marist v Sheffield Oaks RUFC - 5 -15

Man of the Match - George Warmisham.  Ever there at the breakdown, solid in defence and some great ground making pick and drives. 100%

D.O.D. - To stay on after the game and watch the Marist M.O.M neck a pint then proceed to throw it up all over himself

Golden Moment - When Chick, after receiving a straight arm to the chin, broke the line and busted into a gap and looked to be clear for a good break.  Not happy that the ref wasn't doing his job proceeded to stop turn around and set the record straight.

Quote of the Day - Goes to the Marist Captain who summed the match up well "We played like a bag of shit and Oaks deserved the win"...  Quote unquote!!  Oh yeah and to the Marist full back who desperately tried to convince himself that his own team actually had a chance yelled 'these guys are crap' to himself whilst walking back into position after we turned over yet another one of their scrums... well done!!

Quote from the past - True to his word the Rossington player who said to Frets 'You think we're bad wait till you play Marist!'

Fight of the Day - Goes to Jono who also not happy with the poor refereeing picked out the biggest ugliest bastard to take on. Realising he had no chance. He shed his jersey from the props tight grip to make a timely escape!!

After worrying Marist that we weren't going to show up at all we finally arrived and had time just to get changed and warmed up with with 2 minutes to spare.  Unfortunately the referee used all that time to describe to us how we are suppose to play rugby and how he was going to ref the game (non of which he actually did). 'ok guys did you get that guys?'.  Perhaps someone should have pulled him aside at the start of the game and told him how to ref as soon after the kickoff the game descended into blow after blow of cheap shot from the Marist pack and high tackles from the backs.  Though the ref managed 'not to see' any of the incidents.  Including the knock on that the Marist player did before they scored after a penalty ricocheted of the cross bar and regathered by Marist.  Despite having to play the ref as well Oaks fought hard for the ball and turned over a lot of possession at the breakdown and in the scrum.  Oaks for a while made good ground up the field but were undone by some silly decisions that allowed Marist to clear the ball using the wind and peg us back in our own half.  Until it all came together when quick recycling of the ball followed by quick hands in the backs put Chris Edwards in the corner.   Shortly after Jimmy put a great penalty away in gusty conditions just over halfway to put us 8 -5 in the lead. Clearly the better team and frustrated by the good work being done by Oaks forwards Marist stepped up the campaign of cheap shots until just before half time an all in ensued resulting in Jono and one of their players being sent off.

After a settling half time team talk and the wind now in our favor Oaks set about winning the game.  Oaks proceeded to dominate the breakdowns and turn over loose ball and scrums.  Unfortunately some small errors plagued us but Oaks level headed attitude and controlled aggression allowed us clean them up and maintain the pressure. After some great runs made by the centers and followup play from the forwards oaks were able to put Mark Fretwell in the corner for his 11th try of the season.  Not be surpassed  Jimmy converted it in style using the win to curl it in from the touch line (well done to both of em!!).  Fired up from his try Frets managed to reenact a few more African wilderness documentaries by carry numerous Marist backs on his own like a pride of lions swarming around an angry elephant!! The only unfortunate thing was Oaks weren't able to score any more points.

Another improved performance and a very satisfying win!!

Well done guys!!
