Programs

General Body Meetings

Usually held every first Wednesday of every month. The mass meeting updates all the members of what is happening with the organization. Also provides creative ways to promote different cultures. Every meeting begins with an icebreaker to make sure everyone feels comfortable and they don't feel left out and we follow it with impressive and creative presentations. Some presentation gives information about the country, cultural dances, traditions or demonstrations.  And the best part is that in the end we have the food sponsored by the students or an organization, which is congruent with the theme of the meeting.

Back to School Picnic

Every semester we host a Back-To-School Picnic to provide a social event for freshmen and new transfer students a chance to meet new friends. We provided everyone with fee food usually hot dogs, burgers, chips, refreshments. Also we have creative games that are just really make you feel at home. We have watergun fights, baloon fights, picnic games (sack races, banana eating contest, apple dance, Maria went to town, etc...) and we also paly football, baseball, soccer, and ultimate frizbee.

 Halloween Social

This social is usually coprogrammed with the Philippine Student Association and Vietnamese Student Association to celebrate the Halloween festivity.  All groups dressed in costumes for the occasion. We have music and finger foods. And it's just a fun time to get together and meet people.

MAASU: Midwest Asian American Student Union

This conference is held semi-annually at different locations in the Midwest.  MAASU's location changes annually. This gathering is beneficial to students that are willing to gain leadership skills as well as network within the Asian American community.  The conference is usually $30, but it's a great time to get out of DeKalb and hang out with people you normally don't hang out with.

United Colors of NIU

Every fall semester we hold a Multi-Cultural Show in order to increase cultural awareness on our campus.  It is a wonderful event where all types of organizations get together to provide an act from their respective cultures.  This event is open to all cultural organizations from various schools, which also increases a greater network among our respective communities. This event attracts about 170 people, which are mostly from NIU. This program is positive because it brings in a vast diversity of people. Although a majority of people are from NIU this programming also attracts other campuses like UofI, UIC, Depaul, Loyola and Northwestern.

Karaoke Night

Usually co-programmed with the Philippine Student Association, we host an evening with food and singing. This event is social that brings different cultures together. We celebrate by singing together and enjoying each other's company. This program is usually held at someones apartment to have a laid back type setting.  So it is really relaxing and comfortable as well as free.

AAA's Fashion Show is the largest program we showcase each spring. Usually held in April during Asian American Heritage Month. This program involves a lot of people and shows the creative side to the AAA community. There are over 50+ performers who meet and practice every week until Fashion show which make it vital to promote uniqueness, creativity and comedy.

During this event attendees can visit each table and sample food, watch a demonstration, or learn a tradition.  We bring such creativity like the pop culture favorite, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) to Taste of Asia.
