Artist's Biography

Sharlene was born the youngest of three children in New Westminster, BC.   When she wasn't outside exploring, she could be found at the kitchen table with her mother's pad of writing paper, drawing.  A love of the arts continued into high school where she studied drama and fine art.

In 1979, Sharlene moved to Alberta.  Encouraged and mentored by her close friend, Alice Saltiel-Marshall, she joined the Canmore Artist and Artisan's Guild.  In 1982, along with her young family, she returned to BC and settled on Vancouver Island.  With her children off to school, Sharlene returned to work full time.  The passion to create art always remained strong and she continued to draw and paint when time permitted.

Sharlene is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, an associate member of the Coast Collective Art Gallery and belongs to the Studio 30 art group.  

The mother of five, Sharlene currently resides in Victoria, BC with her husband, Raymond and their two youngest sons.

Artist's Statement

With such busy lives, it's often easy to overlook the simple and beautiful details that surround us.   I try to be conscious of the little things everyday and to capture what I see and feel through my art. 

It is very exciting and gratifying to use colours and textures to bring a plain piece of paper or a flat, blank canvas to life.  For me it's about choosing the best medium to convey the sights that I see. The whole journey intrigues me and I become lost in time creating my own magic.
