Tri County Woodturners - A Chapter of the AAW

TRI COUNTY WOODTURNERS

Monthly Meeting

April 7, 2010

Rudy brought meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

68 people in attendance.

Welcome – Guests (7 guests were introduced)

Rudy made several comments and announcements that are described below:

Reminded people to pay their donations.

Review of Wood Show held at the Fairgrounds last month – great participation by our club; demonstrators, volunteers, etc.  Two members received awards for their efforts.

We may have David Ellsworth and/or Trent Bosch provide demonstrations in the future.  Rudy is in contact with both of these folks.

Kirk Diheer has donated a video on sharpening to the club – it is available for check-out.

Anchor Seal is available at $13 per gallon – Contact Al Seilke.

Next Month’s Demonstration will be provided by Al Hockenbery.  He will do his amazing “ball in a sphere.”  Al will be a demonstrator at the National Meeting in June.   Rudy asked if there was interest in having a hands-on session at Glenn’s shop on the Saturday after our meeting (May 8th) to do the ball in a sphere project.  Several people were interested.

Club Shirts were handed out to those who had ordered them (several remain to be picked up).

Minutes from Last Meeting – In notebook at Sandra’s table for all to review.  Treasurer’s Report and Meeting Minutes will always be available for review during the meetings.

Treasurer’s Report – Sandra – Current balance is $3,797.30.  Sandra identified the spending and the income for the last month.  More detail can be found in the report itself.

Raffle – Steve Marlowe provided his segmented bowl for a raffle item.  We had two raffles – one for the Marlowe bowl and one for everything else.

Show & Tell -- We had excellent participation in Show and Tell.  Many members brought items to display and discuss.  The pieces were very nice (some were award winners and others won awards in our hearts) and the discussion and descriptions were very interesting and detailed.  The variety of items was expansive – from arts and crafts items (wrist watches, bracelets, etc.) to pen holders and hollow forms and everything in between.

Demonstration

We had a very good and detailed demonstration.  The demonstration was provided by Rudy, Glenn and Al on methods of re-chucking.  The trio demonstrated and discussed the many different ways to re-chuck an item on the lathe (jam chucks, Cole chucks, rubber chuckys, and other home-made and retail products to make our life easier).

Meeting Ended at 8:35 pm
