Monthly Meeting

April 6, 2011

 

 

Rudy Lopez opened the meeting at 7:05 pm

 

More than 50 people attended at this meeting.

 

Gene Tyne left a bowl at the March meeting.  If anyone picked it up, please contact Rudy.

 

Welcome:

There were 5 guests that were introduced.

 

Minutes from Last Meeting:

Not available, as Tim was not in attendance. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Sandra – Current balance is $3221.51.  Sandra identified the spending and the income for the last month.  More detail is in the report itself. The report was available on the back table for review.

 

 

Buy and Sell:

If anyone has a pond there are some Yellow Lillies available– contact Rudy Lopez

A lathe is available for $150.00. Jim will post the information to the Web site.

 

Raffle:

A lovely Jimmy Clewes goblet was raffled off at the meeting.

 

Show & Tell:

 

·         Judy showed a lovely Podocarpus bowl.

·         John Long displayed a long stem goblet he made from the instructions on the Web site.

·         Joe Rodriquez made some nice candleholders using glass inserts he purchased at Ikea. 

·         Jackie Cronin turned her first (and last) inside/outside vase.  It turned out nice!

·         Bill Stoy made some beautiful and aromatic Juniper boxes.

·         Ken Mattis displayed a fine looking Cedar bowl.

·         Jim Smith made a decorative piece using a Maple Burl base with a Walnut vessel inset and a delicate Maple finial.

·         Al Selke displayed a beautifully figured bowl turned from Brazilian Pepper.

·         Dennis made a charming toothpick holder.

·         Richard Nannis turned an attractive peppermill.

·         Diane made a pen at the Woodworking show, ended up buying a lathe and turned several more pens.  Awww, the excitement of a new turner is so contagious!

·         Barry displayed a bowl he made in 9th grade (which included a felt bottom to hide the faceplate holes) and then a recent bowl he turned under the guidance of some of our members. 

 

Nice job to all who brought something in to display!!

 

 

Demonstration:

Art Worth did a very nice demo of a winged bowl with a decorative edge.  The instructions will be available on the Web site, in PDF format.
